Relatives of those killed during riots in Kyrgyzstan plan to hold a rally on Wednesday in front of the Belarusian embassy in Bishkek to demand the extradition of the ousted president holed up in Minsk, the head of a non-governmental organization said.
The Kyrgyz interim government has urged Belarus to extradite ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev back to Kyrgyzstan, interim premier Roza Otunbayeva said, adding Bakiyev "must answer for his actions before the people."
Bakiyev took refuge in Belarus after fleeing Kyrgyzstan last month. The interim authorities, who took power amid violent unrest in early April, accuse the ousted president of involvement in the shooting of civilians during the riots in the Central Asian country.
The Kyrgyz Prosecutor General Office has accused top officials and Bakiyev's relatives of organizing mass shootings of civilians. The prosecutor general has put them on an international wanted list and the interim government has promised awards of up to $100,000 for their detainment.
