Judicial branch

Justice is executed by courts in Uzbekistan. According to the Constitution, the judicial system of Uzbekistan consists of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court and the Higher Economic Court.

THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan is a body of judicial authority that hears cases relating to the constitutionality of acts passed by the legislative and executive authorities.

According to Article 107 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Constitutional Court is elected for the period of five years. The Constitutional Court and its judges are independent in their activity and subject solely to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Constitutional Court:

  • identifies conformity of the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan and other acts passed by the Oliy Majlis, the decrees issued by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the enactments of the Government and local authorities, as well as obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan under interstate treaties and other documents to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • issues conclusion on conformity of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Karakalpakstan to the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • provides interpretation of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • hears other cases coming within its authority under the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Constitutional Court consisting of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and five members of the Constitutional Court, including a judge from the Republic of Karakalpakstan is elected by the Oliy Majlis on a presentation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

THE SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the highest judicial body of civil, criminal and administrative law.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

  • executes control over the implementation by the courts of the interpretations given by the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • carries out the complex analysis of judicial practice and judicial statistics;
  • organizes measures to improve professional skills of court staff.

The Supreme Courtof the Republic of Uzbekistan consists of the Chairman, First Deputy Chairman and Deputy Chairmen, Chairmen of Judicial Boards, the judges of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

THE HIGHER ECONOMIC COURT

The Higher Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the highest judicial body in sphere of economic legal proceedings. The Higher Economic Court supervises activities of the Economic Court of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Economic Courts of Regions and of Tashkent City.

The Higher Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

  • executes control over the implementation by Economic Courts of the interpretations given by the Plenum of the Higher Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
  • supervises activities of subordinate Economic Courts;
  • studies, generalizes and distributes positive experience in work organization of Economic Courts.

The Higher Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan consists of the Chairman, First Deputy Chairman, Deputy Chairmen, Chairmen of Judicial Boards, judges of the Higher Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
