Constitution

The Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted on January 28, 1993. Two years later the Constitution was substantially amended by virtue of a nation-wide referendum held on August 30, 1995. The new version of the Constitution changed crucially the system of national government. New institutions such as bicameral Parliament, Constitutional Council, Supreme Court Council were introduced. The post of Vice-President was abolished, and the office of the State Secretary was established. Furthermore, amended Constitution extended the presidential term of office up to 7 years.
