Place of birth: Belgrad, Odesa Region, Ukraine
Education: Graduated in 1989 from the International Economic Relations and International Law School of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University. Has a degree in Law.
Career: 1989 – Assistant, post-graduate student with the International Economic Relations Department of Taras Shevchenko Kiev State University.
In 1990s – established “Ukrprominvest” concern; owner of the “Roshen” corporation (30% of the Ukrainian confectionary market).
Political activity: 1998 - 2000 – Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada.
Since 2002 - Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the forth convocation; Head of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee.
Jan. 24, 2005 – appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Sep. 8, 2005 - resigned office of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Oct. 9, 2009 - appointed Foreign Minister of Ukraine.
March 11, 2010 - dismissed as Foreign Minister of Ukraine.
Personal and political contacts: Initially, Poroshenko belonged to the United Social Democratic Party of Ukraine, then joined the Party of Regions. In 2001 founded the “Solidarnost” Party that entered in the bloc “Our Ukraine”. At present, one of the parliamentary leaders of the “Our Ukraine” bloc. According to media, Poroshenko was one of active sponsors of Viktor Yushchenko’s election campaign in 2004. An active participant of the Orange Revolution.
Poroshenko wields influence upon several Ukrainian mass media: the 5th national channel, Vinnytsky television channel “Ishtar”, Internet portal “Express-Inform”, radio NIKO-FM.
